Introducing: The Edmond Life

What’s Up, Edmond?! We’re trying something a little different, and we’re so excited to bring you along! While we’ve loved sharing all the events, activities, and happenings around town, we want to take What's Up Edmond a step further.

Welcome to The Edmond Life - a new way to explore the people, places, history, stories, and little things that make our community so special. From the local businesses built on big dreams to the hidden gems you may not know about and the neighbors who make Edmond feel like home, we want to share the stories that connect us all.

Our goal is simple: to help you see Edmond in a new way, feel even more connected to our community, and fall in love with the place we call home.

Don’t worry, we’ll still help you discover ways to enjoy Edmond! We’ll continue sharing some of our favorite local events, activities, and deals along the way. Our Monday newsletter will lean into stories behind the city we love, and our Thursday email will remain the same to give you all the good stuff happening around town during the weekends.

THE EDMOND LIFE
THE LITTLE THINGS THAT MAKE EDMOND FEEL LIKE HOME

Dylan and I have a running joke that we’ll eventually be living in Colorado when we’re 2,000 years old. Why? Because during the early years of our marriage, we kept moving west one mile at a time through Edmond. It has always been a dream of mine to live somewhere with mountains, but Dylan was born and raised mostly in Edmond and absolutely loves it here. He loves to ask, “But why in the world would we ever leave Edmond?”

I have to admit, as the years have passed, I’ve started asking myself that same question. The new joke in our house is that we’re now 3,000 years away from living in Colorado because a few years ago, we moved to East Edmond. And you know what? It was the best decision we could have made for our family.

Now, now… all you west-side folks take a breath. It’s nothing against you! We’re simply incredibly fortunate to have both sets of grandparents living on the east side of Edmond. When Bennett, our second kiddo, came into our lives, we felt the time was right to move closer to a few extra helping hands. And oh boy, do we need those extra hands!

But the most unexpected blessing of our move has been our neighbors. And when I say neighbors, I mean the entire neighborhood!

There is such a strong sense of community where we live now. Think back to the ’90s, folks. Kids riding bikes in the street. Kids knocking on each other’s doors to see if they can play. Neighbors helping with projects, bringing in each other’s trash bins, and gathering in driveways for impromptu street playdates.

On those evenings when we look outside and see our kids playing with their neighborhood friends, we can’t help but thank God for this unexpected blessing He has given our family.

Now, I will say there have been a few times when our children have gotten a little TOO comfortable with our neighbors. And for those of you who know our firstborn, Lincoln, this story will not surprise you one bit!

Dylan and I will never forget a few weeks after our new neighbors moved in. Lincoln was SO excited to have two new friends right next door, and naturally, he was constantly begging to go see if they could play. After a few playdates, I guess he decided knocking on the front door was no longer necessary. Instead, he simply walked right in through their garage entrance without so much as a knock!

Thankfully, our gracious new neighbors happened to be doing laundry right by the door, so he didn’t make it very far. But as you can imagine, I was absolutely mortified! We had only known these people for a few weeks, and our son was already letting himself into their house!

Lincoln has always been my little social butterfly, constantly pushing this introvert out of her comfort zone. And while there are certainly moments when I wish he would dial it back just a little, I know the Lord made him this way for a purpose. We love to joke that he’s either going to make an excellent lawyer or an outstanding pastor one day. Either way, I know he’ll never have trouble striking up a conversation or winning a negotiation!

When I look at our lives, I realize just how much joy Lincoln has brought us through his outgoing personality. He has introduced us to so many wonderful people, and our neighbors are certainly on that list!

And the thing is, I don’t think ours is the only neighborhood in Edmond where stories like this are being told.

Edmond is known for its small-town feel. Head out for one errand, and you’ll probably run into five people from completely different areas of your life. Granted, you’re probably all at Costco… but still!

I think what I love most about Edmond is how it embraces that small-town culture while still offering incredible locally owned businesses. The people. The food. The activities. There’s just something special about this community that has this mountain-loving girl asking, “But why in the world would we ever leave Edmond?”
